Why didn't it snow?
HEY I'M BACK. Here's a narrative about how today went.
I wake up. It's probably time to go to work, but I heard that it was supposed to snow. Maybe I'll be able to work from home. I throw off my blanket, and make my way to the window. Lots of anticipation. I lift one of the window blinds, and check the driveway. Empty. There's barely any snow. I can't possibly make an excuse now. My feet drag as I make my way back to the bed. I lay down, and then reach for my phone. Maybe it will snow a lot during the day? Then I'd still have an excuse. I turn on the screen, and it's 4 am. Why am I awake? I put the phone down, and close my eyes. I'll try to get some sleep before I check for snow again. My alarm goes off. I check my phone again for the weather. It's a high of 22 degrees. Great. I shuffle back to the window, and peek at the driveway again. There's still no snow. Unfortunate. I go back to the bed. Maybe if I go to sleep again it'll snow. I set my alarm for 30 minutes. My alarm goes off again. I snooze. It goes off again. I snooze. It goes off again. I turn it off, and pull up the weather app. Nope, not snowing. I continue staring at the screen, hoping something might change. Nothing changes. Finally, I get out of bed and start getting ready. I'm already late, so I write a short email to my team telling them I'm on my way. I take a quick shower, and put on some slightly warmer clothes. I don't want to freeze while walking to my car.The drive to work is uneventful. All the roads are clear and I get to the office in 17 minutes. I'm half asleep when I get to my desk, but I turn on my computer and stare at the screen. I don't really want to do anything today. I decide to trouble shoot our keycloak library. The one I have to port over. I go through the entire source code of the original. I find a possible solution. Test it, and I've fixed it. Nice. Chrome was blocking the server from being accessed. It's some security issue. I disabled the security to use our own security. Is this more secure? Not sure, but whatever. My coworkers come over and ask what's for lunch. They want ramen. I guess I'm okay with it. I bundle up, and we walk across the street to the ramen shop. It's overpriced, but I'm not really that frugal. We're seated at a table, and I take out my phone. I pull up Pokemon Go. There's a raid here soon! I take over the nearby gym, and stall until the raid starts. Once it start's they cant attack me anymore, I just need to keep it for 5 minutes. The raid starts, I was successful. Oh it's a Palkia. I wonder if there will be people doing this. I jump into the lobby, and a minute later there are 13 others. This will be easy. We beat the raid, and I catch myself a Palkia. We finish eating lunch, and it's back to the office.I continue staring at my monitor, and I'm interrupted from my lack of work by one of the new juniors. They ask me questions as if I know what I'm doing. They don't know I'm also a junior dev. They don't know everyone is a junior dev. All of the intelligent seniors have already left this company. He talks a bunch, then asks me a lot of questions. Why is he talking so fast? Stop padding your questions with useless fluff. This isn't English class. You aren't writing an easy. I finally decipher what his question is and answer it. I make my way back to my desk. I check the time, it's been 2 hours since lunch. I guess I'll do the work now. I pull up a "Change My Mind" video and start writing database queries. I finally finish, but I check the design and it's terrible. I make up my mind to re-design the whole thing. I probably don't have enough time, but the team is already pretty behind schedule. It won't make a difference if I lose some time redesigning it instead, but it's already 6 so I'll do it tomorrow.
Thankful for:
- The office is surrounded by restaurants. Tons of good places within 5 minutes driving or walking.
- Warm jackets.
- Shoveled sidewalks.
Oh also for the cosplay, the glasses came in today and the outfit is supposed to come by tomorrow night! I'll do a small test run, hopefully it's all gucci.
