Week 31 & 32
Not sure if I mentioned this in the last post, but found out there was a flaw in the design for the feature I was working on. Mostly because of my oversight... The testing setup I used was a single server on my laptop, as well as a single server on my cloud dev box, and I assumed that in production, it would still work even though prod uses multiple servers and load balancers. Basically the thing I was working on assumed there was a session that I could keep track of, but there was no guarantee that all the api calls would hit the same server. I also assumed that Amazon already had a been using a method to keep track of this, but turns out we didn't. Oh well, I finished fixing the problem though so I guess it's all gucci.
Recently (like last week) I felt like my workload was ridiculously high for some reason, and I was freaking out. Partly because there were a lot of things to work on that I considered urgent/important. Even though they weren't all urgent & important. Also my manager keeps asking me if I have enough work to do, and the answer has been mostly no (since I'm usually just finishing up something). But, because I was assigned all these urgent things, which they assumed I was working on but I actually wasn't informed about, my work load has kinda felt like this:
Once I started chipping down on the urgent things, I'm actually back to having a ton of bandwidth... Which I guess is nice. I should probably start keeping track of all the things I'm working on/ responsible for, so I can break them down and stop being stressed for mostly no reason.
Gyming has been really nice. Great way to forget about work, and also feel productive (compared to gaming where I forget about work, and am not productive at all). I've been thinking about getting a trainer, to maybe create a routine to help me increase muscle mass and explosiveness. But I'm not really sure how to approach the gym people about it. Also not sure if they're really doing that right now, given Covid. I've noticed a lot less gym employees recently too.
Still playing a lot of Valorant, and this last week has been a little less buying keyboard parts. There aren't many new things that I'm looking for so hopefully I won't be spending any more... Hopefully...
I've also been watching/listening to some financial videos, like saving strategies and retirement strategies. Said it would be possible to retire in 10 years, if I save 90% of my salary... But I don't know how to invest that money, and that wouldn't leave any money to spend on anything superfluous. So basically... rent + utilities, and food... and then I would have to save everything else. This is assuming the rent payments are really low, and I also wouldn't be able to eat out. ever. for the rest of my life... I think the actual viable strategy is for me to try to get many more promotions and then retire in 20 years instead. But actually if anyone has investing advice, that would be great. My current strategy is just keeping everything in a bank account. :/
