Week 45.75
Hey it’s a little late… but there’s not too much to talk about?
Work has been going. Starting work on some new things and the stuff I wrote a design doc for got approved by my team, so I started work on that this week. It’s honestly not too complicated, but getting everything to work together with Amazon’s internal infrastructure seemed like it might have been pretty complicated. I got it working today, so I’ll hopefully have that work completed by the end of the week.
I’ve also finally started physical therapy last week, and I really can’t tell if it’s helping or not. Also it’s only been a week so… I probably shouldn’t expect too much. I took a practice swing this weekend just to see what if there was something wrong with my form, and basically just threw out my shoulder again. Big oof. In physical therapy sessions, I’ve been doing strengthening for some muscle groups in my shoulder that are too weak/atrophied, and the exercises have been really fatiguing. I can feel my shoulder being very sore, so I guess that means they identified the problem muscles correctly, right?
In keyboard news, I’ve still been buying more parts T^T. More switches, more keyboards etc. Just today I got an ergonomic keyboard and the quality is pretty nice. I built it and put the glorious panda switches in, and it feels nice to type on. I am however having some trouble getting used to typing on it. On normal keyboards, I usually press “Y” with my left hand because it feels a lot more natural to stretch my left pointer out to it, than to stretch out my right hand. I guess years of cello made my left fingers more dexterous? I also tend to press “B” with my right hand instead of my left hand. No idea what the reason for that is thought. The new keyboard is also insanely loud for some reason, even though I added all the foam that they gave me. It’s like a deep thock (bass heavy thock sound as opposed to mid to high pitched ticking) sound for all the keys, and it’s very satisfying. I probably wouldn’t bring this to an office though. Although I might if my coworkers also happen to have loud keyboards.
I’ve been trying to read, and finished chapter 1 of the first book… Which is pretty slow, I know. I just have been playing a little too many games this past week. Also it’s a little daunting thinking about starting to read. There’s so much context to keep track of, and foreign character names that I won’t remember. Sometimes it feels like I’m just reading the words and there’s no image forming in my mind. Kind of like when I was cramming textbooks for school. The worst part is these novels jump between everyone’s perspective every couple paragraphs. It’s already super difficult for me to context switch, but I feel like there isn’t enough room for me to properly start to understand the context before they go to someone else’s perspective.
Hopefully the rest of the week goes by uneventfully at work. I’m too tired right now to deal with any sudden issues that might come up, especially since this is the last week of the current sprint. I’ve also been feeling super tired all the time, even when I tons of sleep on weekends. I’m thinking I should ask for a personal day maybe this Friday, and then just sleep in as late as possible. My manager seems very understanding and reasonable about things like that so maybe I’ll ask tomorrow, after getting all my Code Reviews published and updated.
Oh right, I’m also migrating the entire blog to SquareSpace. I’m too lazy, and poor at design, to actually maintain my Wordpress, other than just putting posts, also there’s some random media limit because of how I initially set up the Wordpress site. Maybe using this will encourage me to do other things with blog other than just weekly* posts?
Anyways, thanks for reading
