Week 46
We’re getting closer to the end of the year, and quarantine is still a thing… Last week was mostly covered in my last post, since it was so late, but basically I finished the work I committed to, and a little bit extra. I think this coming sprint will be pretty simple, in addition I’ll get to start working on a POC that I suggested! Basically it’ll be a pilot to help reduce tech debt, since we’re planning to transition to a different framework.
In shoulder news… I was doing pretty well during my pt sessions this week, and went through some throwing motions, to get used to using my core instead of my shoulder in my swing. It didn’t hurt, and was pretty easy to get used to. But on Saturday (yesterday) I took a swing and the pain was there again. It kind of felt like it hurt even more than before. Also I swung in the air a couple times to try to figure out what was causing the pain, but I could only recreate the pain when I started swinging with my core?? I guess the process was swing straight down = no pain. Swing crossbody = no pain. Swing crossbody while turning with my core = pain! I can pretty much full power swing as long as I don’t turn my body first, which is a little weird… I think my shoulder isn’t keeping up, so when my arm goes past 180 degrees (chest to arm to back) I feel the pain. Maybe I should look into a shoulder brace?
Gym news… So I finally started the training sessions for my vertical jump. I was going to start last week, but the person who was going to be my trainer had a fever, and tested positive for covid. I immediately went to get tested too, just in case, even though the last time I met with him was 2 weeks prior. Fortunately I was still negative. So, I had a substitute trainer yesterday, and we started with some warm ups, and then some initial testing so that we could track my progress. My standing vertical jump was ~31.2 and I think he said my approach vertical was ~33(?) I didn’t actually hear clearly but I’m just gonna go with it. He said it’s possible to get 2 inches in a couple weeks (assuming I’m working out and recovering well [lmao I should sleep more]) but I’m going to try and keep my expectations low. Would like to get an entire foot more though…
Oh last week was also the presidential elections! And reading all about current president’s tweets was pretty entertaining. Between declaring himself the winner before votes were done counting, and saying stop the vote, to after the states flipped to Biden and then saying that the election was stolen from him. Also entertaining that twitter flagged all of his tweets as misinformation. I checked reddit and there was a post asking for why people continue to support him, and they gave a bunch of reasons like foreign policy and economic growth. However, I guess I don’t see how those are more important than dealing with domestic issues (ie: Covid, inequality, education, environment). Not to mention how his behavior sets a poor example for the people, and encourages misbehavior from extremists. I guess the biggest gripe I have is people thinking: “if it doesn’t negatively affect me personally, then I don’t care.” I think the goal should be to make life better for everyone. If policies allow things that go against your beliefs, then convince people why they should believe what you believe in instead of just force them to follow your beliefs. Slight rant over.
Also typing this on new keyboard feels A+… I’m just trying to find things to let me type more cuz it feels so good…
